That's What I Get

One day last week Brady was just having another Brady day.  He had constantly hit his sister and I all morning and I finally put him in his room in timeout for a few minutes.  Kendra and I had been playing a card game.  I was going to get him out and she asked if we could just have a few more minutes without him to finish playing.  I'm such a sucker.

About 5 minutes later, having not finished the game, I opened his door to him saying "poop, poop."  Great I thought.  Uh, huh.  He had taken off his diaper and spread poop on the floor in front of the door.  I think he had then tried to clean it up, because he does that, as it was wiped all over the diaper and then he put the diaper by the window...more poop on floor.  UGHHHHHH!  See, that's what I get for putting him in timeout.  Smart boy isn't he.  I'm sure he was thinking, "You won't do that again mommy, will you?"  Eye roll, huff, sigh!  Insert exclamation!

I spent 20 minutes cleaning it up with laundry stain remover as we were out of carpet cleaner.  Needless to say I went to the store that night to purchase more Resolve.  It is a staple in our house these days.  :-)

Until the next episode...

Man. That's Just brady.

Huh.  LOL  I went into the kitchen the other day to see what Brady had gotten into.  He was doing is usual "eat, eat" and I knew he had gone down there to get something.  By the time I got there he had the oatmeal out which he does frequently.  Now, as some of you know after our water pitcher incidents, we installed locks on the pantry and the fridge.  Well, those only work if you lock them!  I'm just setting the scene.

So, I get down there and take the oatmeal away and place it on the counter.  He also had a couple containers of my herbs out.  I didn't smell anything so apparently he didn't get them open this time.  I happened to look inside the oatmeal container for some reason and saw that it had dried blueberries in it.  I knew I had seen Kevin fix it with stuff all in it but didn't realize it came with it.  Cool I thought!

I got Brady something to eat and then continued to clean up the kitchen.  I put the things away Brady had out from the pantry and then realized he had the garlic powder out.  I don't think he poured it anywhere...didn't smell anything.  Well, that was until I thought about the oatmeal.  hmmmm  I looked into the container again.
At this point I ask myself: "Are those really blueberries?"  Yeah right.  See the picture on the box?  Good coverup.  Those little round balls in the oatmeal were whole pepper corns!  And he did put garlic powder in the oats as well.  My boy.  He likes to go grocery shopping so he sabatoged the oatmeal so we would have to go again! The Big Green Tractor

We bought a ride on tractor from our neighbor a month or so ago.  Brady used to go take it out of their garage and ride it around.  He is definitely brave. They are like the children's grandparents so it wasn't ever an issue.  We just thought since he rode on it more than their grandson we should go ahead and purchase it. :-)

At first, we just let Brady ride on it.  Kendra used to get on it but when the gears started breaking and needed to be replaced we decided that maybe she was too heavy for it.  So, she hasn't been able to get on it for some time.  Last week, however, they were both on it and having so much fun I couldn't tell her to get off.  She would sit with Brady in the front and he would steer.  Now, he is a daredevil and will ride over anything and everything that comes in front of him.  He rides off the side of the platform at the shed, over rocks...large ones, and even ventures down the street if we aren't looking.

Lately, the newest thing is riding down the rock path between our house and the neighbors.  He had done it before but it has now become a ramp of sorts.  No wonder the thing is clicking and popping.  I think we are going to replacing the other gear soon!  Anyway, I just had to share because they are both so cute riding around on it and have the biggest smiles.  Good times!

OH, that is what she meant!

My mother, who keeps my children often, has mentioned several times about how Lucifer has taken over Brady.  Not sure she used that name or one relevant BUT I sure found out what she was talking about yesterday.

I woke up first with Brady.  He was screaming under his door for his daddy or I to come get him.  My first mistake: I got up instead of dad.  (insert laugh)  I should have asked daddy to but I actually think I was feeding Carson at the time anyway.  My second mistake: I should have let him stay in there until he went back to sleep.  UGH.  I enter his room from the bathroom door and he automatically started crying.  I had Carson too so I was trying to figure out if I wanted to stay up there and play or go downstairs.  I ended up taking them down because Brady needed to eat.  I mean needed in the strongest sense of the word.  He hadn't hardly eaten at all the day before which could have had a whole lot to do with his state of mind on this day.

All I am going to say now is that the first ten minutes of the day told the whole story for the rest of the day.  I was poked, kicked, slapped in the face, spit at, and screamed at with each move.  NO kidding!  Parents of 2 year olds listen up.  I urge you to NOT open the door if they are already screaming under it AND if you do, put them back to sleep right away!

I ended up (dramatically speaking) throwing open our bedroom door, nudging him in and frantically telling Kevin if he didn't get up and take him I might have to do something I shouldn't.  I then went outside for a few minutes, took some much needed deep breaths and sat on the swing.  (AND he was like that the rest of the day truely)  I know he didn't mean to do anything he did but my feelings were hurt.  I know some of you know what I mean.  Here I have my 2 1/2 year old hitting and pinching me and not wanting to do anything I try to do for him.  There is only one possible reason, he's 2 1/2.  You thought I was going to say something else!  LOL  Don't worry.  It's just another day in paradise...that's what I sing when we're having a day such as that.  Makes it all seem better (insert laugh).

Lessons learned in this episode:
1)  Let the other spouse get up with the kids in the morning.
2) If they are screaming from the start, put them back to bed.

How to stay sane:
1) Take 10 min. of "timeout" for a few deep breaths
2) Tell yourself you're a great parent
3) Take the kids outside (always seems to work)

How it came to be

My husband said something funny last night that rung a bell with me.  As he was talking to Kendra and explaining why he or we could not play with her earlier that day, he said it was because of "the Brady factor."  I just thought that was so cute.  So, I decided to start the story of Brady's life - here for all to view and hopefully chuckly at.  I'm sure we will not be chuckling at first to some of the stories, but in time will find them humorous.

As I was thinking about how to go about telling our stories and figuring out how I wanted to express our family, I thought of God first.  I racked my brain for a few minutes and then for some reason "benefactor" kept coming to my mind.  Well, then I had to go look it up even though I know what it means.  Sometimes there is hidden meaning behind words.  I read through all the definitions online and came up with what I think is the perfect meaning to the blog and Brady: The Brady Factor.  God has given us the gift of our son and a benefactor often gives a gift.  Brady is a gift from above and he rewards us each day through his wonderful personality.  Not inserting sarcasm YET!  I hope to be able to do justice to the "gifts" he gives us each day of the year.  Sarcasm inserted now. LOL
